May TIF Crazy Block

I have finished my May TIF challenge piece and I have mixed feelings about how it has turned out.
I really struggled with the colours this month--not that I didn't like the colours because I did--but I just couldn't seem to get any life in the block-you know -the colours just seemed flat to me.
I kept auditioning things to put on it but nothing jumped out and said "yeehah" I'm the one--so I had to just make do with this.
Maybe that is my punishment for buying the "stuff" that I did when I was on holidays seeing as I said I would only use what I had in my stash.
I think that maybe next month I may piece a different shape to the block and see what happens then.
I can't believe I have done 5 blocks already and seeing as I intend making these into a "Crazy " fabric book I am starting to wonder just how heavy it will be when it is finished--I may have to get a trolley to carry it around on.

I am sorry about the bright photo but I had to take it outside to get a good picture.
Oh well roll on June and the start of another one.

Your block looks nice but I have to agree with you that those colours on their own are pretty dead! I love the colours but think they need something else to make them sing. You seem to have done something about it with your embellishment. I have the threads out and that is as far as I have got - maybe this month is just not getting done colourswise!

I think your block looks nice, but they are not colours I am drawn to.I am so glad Im doing the concept rather than colour schemes - Id have given up in Jan! duly noted Ebonys true age....sigh! :) Although when Im competing with the under 10's a year or so probably makes little difference!

You may not be too happy with it but it looks good to me!!

I think using pastel colors it would be difficult to bring too much zing into it....they tend to be soft and quiet colors. I like what you did....love the little spider!

It's a lovely block and reminds me of spring here.

Nicely done Doreen! I agree with you about the colours tho..they certainly aren't 'me', but I love the challenge of working with colours that are outside my comfort zone. I'm not at all sure that I'm going to love my efforts with this one but the jury is still out.

I really like how your block turned out :) These would not be my colours of choice but I think yoy did a wonderful job making them work . Where did you find the pattern for your embroidery of the flower and leaves?

This is pretty. Like you the colors don't do much for me; without a darker one the palette is flat. Your darker design helps a lot.

Oh wow! you've done it again Val what a wonderful block. The details are glorious, that spider in its web is just beautiful.

Hi Doreen - your block is gorgeous! These are the colours in our hedgerows of wild flowers at the moment - except there is one mising - buttercup yellow! (and the greens of course) Are you allowed to add yellow? If so, how about changing a couple of those blue buttons for bright yellow ones? Val

You've done a lovely job on this Doreen, very pretty, although I can see what you're saying about the colours. I haven't tackled this one yet but it's got to be an improvement on browns.

this is so awesome! I learned on my first one, not to use such busy fabrics, it is hard to add the goodie hand embellishments and show them off on your quilt... Love the light colors also.... and Doreen, thanks for your prayers and friendship comments you have left for me...

After I get going again and also learn more about CQing, maybe we can do a small one on one trade of something CQ's..
