TAST Barred Chain Stitch

This week the stitch for TAST is Barred Chain stitch.Yuk.
I can honestly say that I did not like this stitch at all.
I had to make 3 samples before I finally came up with anything that was halfway decent.
The first one was done on silk paper and the second one was on wool felt and neither of these looked any good so I resorted back to what I do best a basic sample on counted thread fabric. The one good thing about this sample is the thread that I used--which is a new one from The Thread Studio.
It is one of their own specially dyed threads called "Royal Shiraz"from the Opulent Collection and it is beautiful not only in colour but also to work with.
There are 7 different textured silk threads in the one packet all dyed in this amazing colourway.

I love that thread Doreen!! I don't think I've come across anyone that likes this stitch. (Maybe I could just miss this one out.....)

Hi Doreen - well I renamed it Barbed Chain stitch because I kept reading it that way. My sample is ready to go on in the morning when he turns his computer on. After photo of melting pot tomorrow ......

Must just be me but I quite liked it and the possibilities it allowed. I hadn't done it before so it took some getting used to. Granted it meant moving the angle of needle and thread about a bit but with thick threads it soon grew. The variegated thread you have used Doreen is so jewel like though. Wonder what is next

Your sample is much better than mine but I was so late doing it only had one go, I found the twisting of the thread around the needle awkward but can see some uses for it.
Love your doll atc's and the other dolls as well I have just finished making 7 little big foot pins!

Yes, I wonder why so many of us had a hard time with this stitch... Anyway, I think you've made a nice sample and the thread is lovely.

This look's beautiful with the thread you used. This stitch remind's me of the crown of thorn's Jesus wore. I know what you mean ~ it is a harsh stitch no matter how you try to soften it up.
