Mixed Media Collage

Last week when I wasn't feeling well I thought I would do something to cheer myself up.
I started with a rectangle box canvas which I had previously coloured with an stamp ink pad. Next I added torn papers from the ones that Janet had sent me in my giveaway prize (see below) and Hilary had sent me several weeks ago.
I added stamped and stencilled designs using acrylic paints - then I played around with walnut ink and colourwash sprays to create a wash effect.
I then used a sanding block to distress it and finally added a couple of coats of Mod Podge to give it a semi gloss appearance.
Lastly I added 2 "Kaiser" wood flourishes that I had painted black and added Goldfinger around the edges for hilites.
I rather like how it turned out but I am sorry that I didn't take step by step photos as I went along as I was really not sure what I was doing and just kept plodding along.
I will have another go this week and see what I come up with.

Doreen, don't you love how some of the best things just evolve though?
I find if I plan too much ahead, I just stress when it doesn't work out exactly, VBG. I really like this piece, all it needs now is a few random stitches.....
Just kidding. I can really see you're enjoying your art at the moment, hope you are on the mend now?
Hooroo,
Christine.

Wow....what a wonderful mixed media piece! If you were just plodding along then I want to find that same path! I think it's beautiful! The little wood flourishes are just perfect.

I love it Doreen, I very rarely have a plan, I usually just wing it with all fingers crossed!

This is beautiful Doreen, you must be so pleased with it. I love the colours you have used and the way you have integrated each of the elements. The flourishes look a bit like Grungeboard - I love that stuff. Hope you are feeling better this week. Take care.

Isn't it just great to 'play' and see what happens! I do that all the time and most of my stuff is done on a wing and a prayer! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! This has turned out beautifully. I hope you're feeling a bit better now.

It's me again! Thanks for the encouraging comment you left on my blog. I've seen so much of those vessels I'm not sure if I like them, so it's good to get an independent opinion. Poppy is a joy and I'm looking after her all day next Wednesday - lovely! Hope you are OK now.

Doreen, I have found you through Heather's blog, found heather through The Weaver of Grass, and so it goes on!! I simply love that art piece. I clicked on it to enlarge it and was it worth it! Wow, just stunning. I would have it on my wall.
I think we have some similarities, I am 60, also a Virgo (6th September) and my sister has lived in Bungendore for ever!! She is 'big' in the CWA over there, so you may even know her with her unusual name, Trudi Tritschler? Anyway, lovely to meet.

This looks great Doreen, I have a few canvases but am still waiting for inspiration - guess I should just give it a go!
What a lovely birthday treat for Ebony, & great pics.

Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well - hope you are "all better"! Love your mixed media creation - I love those flourishes (but then I am a bit of doo-dad addict). PS When did you change your background? I have obviously only been reading in google reader format and missed the change. It looks terrific btw.

WOW Doreen! This is just wonderful. Brilliant use of some of your papers - and no stitch in sight (yet!) I noticed you'd gone quiet, but thought you were busy - hope you are all better now. I clicked on this work of art to see it close up - magical! I also tipped my head to one side and decided it would look just as lovely on its long edge, with the little squares in the bottom right hand corner. You haven't actually said how big it is?
