Today our daughter took Stephen and I for a drive out to Bungendore and Braidwood.
She had wanted to get in some more driving experience as at the tender age of 47 she has had her drivers licence for less that 2 years.
She never found the need to learn to drive before because everyone else used to take her everywhere.
Anyway back to the story--both of these little country villages have lots of antique stores and places filled with old memorabelia plus quaint little eating places.
When we were in one of the shops I spotted this retro spice set---and I let out a little shriek--not too loud you know but loud enough for Stephen to ask what was wrong.
Now back in the 70's we had a set of these plus the bigger cannisters for flour-sugar-tea and coffee as well.
We also had a set of lime green saucepans--now how trendy was that?
The lady in the shop asked me what had happened to my set---
How would I know they weren't fashionable anymore---oh I do remember--I gave them to a friends two daughters who were setting up house together and they were into retro stuff and they were over the moon to have them.
As far as I know they still use them.
They wanted $33 for the set and Stephen in true Stephen fashion said "You're not going to buy them are you?"
NO way Hose`

Oh - what a shame if you really liked them Doreen. Maybe they'll be there the next time you call in and you'll know they're waiting for you! Good luck to your daughter with her driving lessons.
These are absolutely adorable Doreen...of course you had to buy them!! I'm still kicking myself that I didn't succumb to some funky cup & saucers (they were ladies heads, sort of) when I was in an antique shop awhile ago. I loved them but didn't want to pay the price (think they were something like $7 each). I know how you would have felt if you didn't buy the jars, so good for you!!
When I think back to all the things I've gotten rid of that are now considered trendy and cost $$$, I really want to kick myself! But who knows what is going to be "the thing" in 20, 30, 40 years!
It's fun to see those old items again though, isn't it.
Its good to look at bits like this and the memories they bring back but I agree with you about not buying them, I don't think it would be quite the same as having the originals.
It made me think too of how I used to laugh at my Gran with her 'I remember when...' stories - it's funny how thats another thing that just creeps up on you when you get older isn't it? :)
I really enjoy the drive to Braidwood and Bungendore. I usually end up with a fruit loaf from the Braidwood bakery.
It is funny to see items from our past turning up again. We once had a pine and lime green kitchen but I'm into lighter colours now.
My sister had a set just like that one too, don't know what happened to hers either, probably got broken along the way. I loved those shops in Braidwood, but was horrified to find that what they were calling antique was mostly what I grew up with! Cheers, Robin
We had a "china" from Woolworths when we were first married, apparently it now commands high prices but I wouldn't want it back.
Braidwood and Bungendore sounds like a great places for a day out.
Love these retro jars. I remember mum having orange saucepans in the 70's!
LOL I had the orange version... They had a textured finish didn't they... We had a large one that was the best biscuit 'jar' as its seal was really tight... I wish I remembered what happened to mine....
I've had orange ones of these....yep, kicking myself that I just gave them to the op shop way back when.....had a full set given to me by someone who updated...and it even had the huge cookie jar too! Oh I miss that set now. Hugs Naomi
